Can I optimize several files at once (batch processing)?
We support batch processing of up to 100 files in a batch, but processing more than 100 files in a batch may be possible. If you need to optimize large quantities of files, we recommend using NXPowerLite for File Servers.
NXPowerLite 5 seems to reduce the size of some files less than previous versions. Why is this?
Since NXPowerLite was first released in 2001, computer screens have got bigger and better. So we've changed NXPowerLite 5's default settings to reflect today's higher resolution devices. This will mean that optimized Microsoft Office and JPEG files will look better than if they had been optimized using a previous version of NXPowerLite. However, some optimized files may be larger than if they had been optimized using a previous version.
If you'd like to replicate NXPowerLite's previous default settings, please select 'Optimize files for: Custom' and press 'Settings'. Then select the 'Image Optimization' tab and do the following:
To replicate NXPowerLite's old 'Screen' settings:
For both 'Microsoft Office' and 'JPEG', ensure that the 'Resize images for display at:' box is checked, then change the display size to '1024x768' and the JPEG quality level to '6'.
To replicate NXPowerLite's old 'Print' settings:
For both 'Microsoft Office' and 'JPEG', ensure that the 'Resize images for display at:' box is unchecked, then change the JPEG quality level to '6'.
To replicate NXPowerLite's old 'Mobile Device' settings:
For both 'Microsoft Office' and 'JPEG', ensure that the 'Resize images for display at:' box is checked, then change the display size to '480x480' and the JPEG quality level to '6'.
Where does NXPowerLite save my files?
By default, NXPowerLite will save an optimized file in the same folder as the original and add '(NXPowerLite)' to the optimized file's name. You can change this behavior by selecting 'Settings' from NXPowerLite's 'Tools' menu and clicking on the 'Optimized Files' tab.
Will my optimized files have the same creation date and time as the originals?
By default, NXPowerLite will give an optimized file creation data that corresponds to the date and time that the file was optimized. To give optimized files the same creation data as the originals, select ‘Settings' from NXPowerLite's ‘Tools' menu and click on the ‘Optimized Files' tab. Then check the ‘Preserve original file's date and time' box.
Which optimization settings should I use?
The default optimization setting, 'Screen', is suitable for most purposes. Files will look great on screen, but may not be suitable for high quality printing.
'Print' can be used if high quality printouts are required. Files will be print-quality, but file sizes will be slightly larger.
Free Mp3 Download For Mac
'Mobile device' can be used if files only need to be viewed on cellphones or PDAs. File sizes will be tiny, but picture quality may be poor on larger screens.
If none of the above options meet your requirements, you can select your own, custom optimization settings.
What does 'Flatten embedded documents' mean?
Embedded documents (such as Adobe Photoshop images or Microsoft Visio diagrams) tend to store far more information than Word, Excel and PowerPoint actually need to display them (a Photoshop image will, for example, store all of the layer information that built up during its creation). Flattening an embedded document removes this 'behind the scenes' data, leaving only the information that Word, Excel or PowerPoint needs in order to correctly display it. This drastically reduces the file size, but means that the document will no longer be editable from within Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
What does 'Delete private application data' mean?
Applications that create PDFs files, such as Adobe Photoshop or Acrobat, are able to store information within a PDF file that they can use when opening or editing the file. This information can only be used by the application which created the file and is not needed to display a PDF file. For most cases we recommend deleting this data as it will have no effect on the use of the PDF file.
Can you explain the custom optimization settings?
'Image Optimization' tab:
'Resize for display at' enables NXPowerLite to resize large images to the size that is set in the accompanying drop-down list. This drop-down list displays the screen resolution that you expect your files to be viewed at.
Adjusting 'JPEG quality' will affect the size of your files, but also the quality of JPEG images within them. Higher quality will generally result in a larger file size, but better looking pictures. The default setting of '7' offers the best trade-off between file size and quality.
For JPEG files we recommend always disabling the 'Resize for display at:' option, because you are still able to achieve significant file size reduction by changing the JPEG quality. This means that the JPEG image will not be resized.
'Hidden Content' tab:
'Allow image cropping' enables NXPowerLite to remove any portions of images that have been cropped within Word, Excel or PowerPoint files.
