From the drop down menu, choose to unzip your files to this Mac, iCloud Drive, Dropbox or Google Drive. A 'Finder style' window will open. You can browse to the folder where you want the files saved. Choose to unzip the Entire Zip file or Selected Items. You may also choose to Show unzipped items in the Finder.
Sometimes we download or receive file from others, only to see that we don’t have the necessary software to open it. Usually we download the required software to open that file, but if we keep downloading and installing software just to open one or two files like this, we will be filling our PC with some apps that we are only going to use once or twice. That’s where universal file opener comes in. Here, we are going to review 7 tool to help you to open almost any files.
Free Opener
Free Opener is a very friendly looking file opener with a very simple and easy to use user interface. When you open it for the first time, you have to choose the file you want to open to get started. It’s really as simple as it sounds. Users can open most of the basic and standard documents, audio/video and image files using this software including Microsoft Office files, MOV, MPG, FLV, MKV, image files, code files and other necessary files.
The software managed to open even a subtitle and zipped files but it doesn’t support ISO files at the moment. The number of supported files are also less comparing to most of the other free file openers out there which can be a problem for some users. But it’s good enough for opening all the file formats we face daily.
Number of supported files: 80+

File Viewer Lite
File Viewer Lite is a lightweight file opener just like its name suggests. The software supports opening more than 120 file formats natively. You have to decline the third party software installation permissions carefully when installing the software to avoid installing unnecessary software.
The lite version doesn’t support editing and saving files which is a letdown. It doesn’t work for ISO and PowerPoint presentations as well like Free File Opener. But a new feature that I noticed in this software is its sidebar that shows all the necessary information about that file.

Open Freely
Open Freely is one of the best open viewer that managed to open almost everything I thrown at it. It’s really easy to install this software, there is no third party software installation to avoid and it’s actually completely free. Most of the apps failed to open PowerPoint presentation slide but it was an easy thing to do for Open Freely.
Most of the standard file formats like DOC, MP3, MP4, PSD, JPG, BMP and even MKV are supported by this software. It can be used as an advanced file editor, document editor and file extractor.

Universal Viewer
Universal Viewer is a small and easy to use file opener that can help you to open most of the basic files you face in your daily life. The installer link starts the installation of a software called InstallIQ so you can try the portable version to avoid this problem.
The portable version won’t support some of the documents if MS Office is not installed on your PC. Some features like converting images and preinstalled PDF plugin are only available for Pro users. Using this software, you can open images, multimedia files, documents, PDF, RTF, text files and all file types supported by Total Commander.

All you have to do is upload your file or enter file URL and it will show you the file which means you don’t have to install any software to view those files. TrIDNet
Sometimes we come across files that doesn’t include any extension. That’s where TrIDNet File Identifier comes in. It can help you to find out about a file’s format, and other necessary info about a file. The software doesn’t require any installation but users have to download the program and filetype’s definition separately from the official website.
Here are the steps to identify your file extension:

- Download TrIDNet and TrID XML defs from the official website.
- Unpack them into the same folder.
- After running TrIDNet, load all the definitions from the TrIDDefList.TRS file, if you don’t see the file in that folder or if the software asks for a rescan, it will start loading all the defs one by one.
- Users can start using the software once the parsing and loading is done.
- Click on browse to look for the file you want to identify.
- Analyse it.
- The software will take it from there and show you the file’s extension, type and percentage of match.
